A culminating experience which reflects the student’s cumulative knowledge of athletic training concepts, procedures, and theories. All students pursuing a MAT are required to sit for the Comprehensive Examination. Students must receive permission from the Athletic Training Program Director to schedule the exam and must have successfully completed ATP 501-512. A “Pass” or “Fail” is awarded for the comprehensive exam. Students must earn a “Pass” in order to progress in the curriculum. (Course fee applies.)

This course will explore various biometric measurements and physiological monitoring systems that are used in athletic and healthcare settings. Through a semester long project, students will assess patient/client status, develop a corrective exercise program, and monitor the individual throughout the program. The course will explore topics of identify and correcting muscle imbalances and movement patterns, ethics, and new technologies will be presented.

The Counselor Education and Supervision Continuing Dissertation course provides students with the opportunity to continue working on the dissertation study after the student has completed all of the didactic and experiential classes required by the program. The Continuing Dissertation class is a one-credit class that students will enroll in each semester they are working on their dissertation, after they have taken the three-credit Counselor Education and Supervision Dissertation class. There are no grades or learning outcomes associated with this class. This class is only to be used to remain registered as a student in the Ph.D. program while working on the dissertation study.

The Professional Orientation and Ethics in Counselor Education and Supervision course provides students with an overview of the Counselor Education and Supervision program and the ethics associated with being a Counselor Educator and Supervisor. Students will examine scholarly evidence of supervision, research, teaching, and leadership effectiveness while creating a new sense of Counselor Educator identity through the incorporation of theories, models, and skills. This course will offer six hours of ethics training on legal and ethical issues and responsibilities in counseling supervision, practice, research, teaching, and leadership.

The Professional and Technical Writing for Counselor Education and Supervision course provides students with the opportunity to engage in scholarly examination of culturally sustaining counseling practice across multiple settings while also addressing professional writing for peer-reviewed journal publication, professional conference proposal preparation, grant proposals and other sources of funding, and professional writing techniques for dissertation studies.

The Advanced Clinical Counseling Theory course provides students with the opportunity to examine the evidence base for counseling processes and theories, conceptualization of clients from multiple theoretical perspectives, and the methods for evaluating counseling effectiveness. The course will offer three hours of ethics training on legal and ethical issues and responsibilities in counseling across multiple settings and across service delivery modalities.

The Counseling Supervision course provides students with the theoretical frameworks and models of counseling supervision, skills of counseling supervision across multiple settings and across service delivery modalities, and opportunities for developing a personal style of counseling supervision grounded in theory and research. Students will also learn about multicultural assessment of supervisees’ developmental level and other relevant characteristics, evaluation, remediation, and gatekeeping in counseling supervision, and strategies of leadership in consultation. This course will provide three hours of ethics training on legal and ethical issues and responsibilities in counseling supervision.
