ATP 512 Mental Health Strategies (Credits: 3)

This course will examine the various mental health concerns of the physically active population. Case studies will assist the students through discussion of the critical decision making process to assist patients in receiving the appropriate care. Risk factors, management plans, referrals, and medications related to mental health concerns will be discussed. (Course fee applies)

ATP 513 Manual Ther/Alternative Trmnt (Credits: 2)

This course will introduce students to additional therapeutic interventions that can be used with their patient population. The physiological effects of manual therapy and other alternative treatments will be discussed. The benefits and risks associated with each treatment modality will be examined. (2 hours lecture, 2 hours laboratory)

ATP 514 Orthopedic Procedures (Credits: 3)

This course will examine the various techniques for diagnosis and care of common musculoskeletal injuries. Students will examine various forms of radiography used in the diagnosis of injuries, proper procedures for casting and bracing of injuries, and other techniques used on the orthopedic setting. This course will include experiences in the clinical orthopedic setting.

ATP 551 Clinical I (Credits: 2)

This course will include both didactic and experiential learning. Students will be assigned to clinical education sites either on campus or at an affiliated site. Focus of this clinical experience will be on evaluation and therapeutic exercise techniques.

ATP 552 Clinical II (Credits: 2)

This course will include both didactic and experiential learning. Students will be assigned to clinical education sites either on campus or at an affiliated site. Focus of this clinical experience will be on evaluation techniques and therapeutic modalities. (Pre-requisite: ATP 551)

ATP 553 Clinical III (Credits: 1)

This course will include both didactic and experiential learning. Students will be assigned to clinical education sites either on campus or at an affiliated site. Focus of this clinical experience will be integrating evaluation and treatment techniques. (Pre-requisite: ATP 552)

ATP 554 Clinical IV (Credits: 2)

This course will include both didactic and experiential learning. Students will be assigned to clinical education sites either on campus or at an affiliated site. Focus of this clinical experience will be emergency management skills through an immersive experience. (Pre-requisite: ATP 553)(Course fee applies.)

ATP 555 Clinical V (Credits: 4)

This course will include both didactic and experiential learning. Students will be assigned to clinical education sites either on campus or at an affiliated site. Focus of this clinical experience will be preparing for independent function as an entry-level athletic trainer. (Pre-requisite: ATP 554)

ATP 556 General Medical Clinical (Credits: 1)

This course will include both didactic and experiential learning. Students will be assigned to clinical education sites at various health care facilities. This will be an immersive clinical experience that focuses on general medical skills. (Pre-requisite: ATP 551, Offered either Winter I or Summer II)

ATP 599 Comp Exam/Athletic Training (Credits: )

A culminating experience which reflects the student’s cumulative knowledge of athletic training concepts, procedures, and theories. All students pursuing a MAT are required to sit for the Comprehensive Examination. Students must receive permission from the Athletic Training Program Director to schedule the exam and must have successfully completed ATP 501-512. A “Pass” or “Fail” is awarded for the comprehensive exam. Students must earn a “Pass” in order to progress in the curriculum. (Course fee applies.)
