Adult Learners
The College of Undergraduate Studies and the College of Nursing and Health Professions serve adult students who pursue associate or baccalaureate degrees or various certificates, or who enroll in workshops for professional proficiency and personal enrichment.
The College of Undergraduate Studies and the College of Nursing and Health Professions are committed to providing meaningful educational experiences to men and women, full- and part-time adult students who are entering college for the first time or who are returning after a lapse of time. The College of Undergraduate Studies and the College of Nursing and Health Professions fulfill the educational needs of the adult learner who wishes:
- To earn an associate or baccalaureate degree;
- To obtain teacher certification;
- To fulfill a certificate program in a special area;
- To update skills and knowledge;
- To enrich his or her personal life.
Requirements For Admission
The College of Undergraduate Studies and the College of Nursing and Health Professions are open to any student who:
- is a graduate of an accredited secondary school or has achieved the equivalent status through GED certification;
- has the potential to meet the educational standards of the University.
Admission Process For Degree, Certificate, And Certification Programs
Applications to the College of Undergraduate Studies or the College of Nursing and Health Professions include:
- A completed application form online through www.immaculata.edu/apply/. There is no application fee.
- Official transcript from an accredited secondary school or the GED. A secondary school transcript must be submitted only if a student has earned fewer than 24 transferable college credits at previous accredited institutions;
- Official transcripts of previously attended colleges.
In addition, students whose primary language is not English must submit results of the TOEFL or IELTS. This requirement is waived if applicants have documentation that they graduated from an English language academic institution or spent two recent years in an English-speaking school.
Students who attended foreign schools must have their transcripts evaluated by World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), or the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS).
Normally, a maximum of 72 credits may be accepted in transfer for adult students, thus enabling the student who holds an associate degree in a compatible liberal arts program to enter the college with junior status.
If the applicant was enrolled in a post-secondary institution within the past five years and had a grade point average below 2.0, the appropriate dean will review application on a case-by-case basis for admission.
Additional Requirements –RN to BSN Program
- A copy of current RN license
- Official transcripts from an accredited Nursing Program
- Graduation from an accredited diploma or associate degree in nursing program
Additional Requirements - Accelerated Second Degree Nursing B.S.N.
Immaculata’s Accelerated Second Degree B.S.N. program is designed for individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree and wish to enter the field of nursing.
Applicants for an Accelerated Second Degree B.S.N. program should:
- Have an earned Bachelor’s degree in non-nursing field.
- Demonstrate academic ability (GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred).
- Complete specific prerequisites science courses (Genetics, Microbiology for Health Science, Anatomy & Physiology I & II and Survey of Chemistry) within the past seven (7) years with a grade of C+ or higher
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendations from faculty, employers, or supervisors are required.

Additional Requirements Teacher Certification Programs
Individuals applying to teacher certification programs who have earned 24 or more credits must pass a basic skills test prior to admission. Transfer students with less than 23 credits may be admitted but must formally apply to the teacher certification program after earning 48 credits.

Additional Requirements – Education Certification (Post-Baccalaureate)
Immaculata’s post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs are designed for individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree and wish to enter the field of education. Students pursuing certification in secondary education should hold a bachelor’s degree related to the content area of choice.
Applicants for an Education Certification program should:
- Submit official transcripts indicating graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a baccalaureate degree;
- Possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.0;
- Meet with an advisor from the Education Division.
Admission/Registration Policy For Non-Degree Seeking/Enrichment Students
Most courses offered by Immaculata University can be taken for personal enrichment.
Individuals who are not pursuing a certificate, certification or a degree may enroll in courses for which they have the prerequisites by:
- Completing a registration form;
- Submitting tuition payment.
Admission/Registration Policy For Credit Or Non-Credit Workshops
Immaculata University offers a variety of credit or non-credit workshops that may be taken to enhance skills or for personal enjoyment. Interested individuals must:
- Complete a registration form;
- Submit workshop tuition payment.
International Students
International students seeking admission to the College of Undergraduate Studies or the College of Nursing and Health Professions should follow the admission requirements as outlined in the “International Students” section of this catalog. Professional academic advisors are available to assist international students with admission requirements.
Classification
Students in the College of Undergraduate Studies or the College of Nursing and Health Professions are classified as:
- Matriculated students enrolled in a degree or certificate program;
- Non-matriculated students enrolled in credit courses for:
- Enrichment, or
- Transfer to another institution, or
- College credit earned through a dual enrollment program at an associated high school (see Dual Enrollment)
Credits earned by non-matriculated students can be applied to a degree once a student matriculates;
- Non-matriculated students enrolled for audit in non-credit workshops, or for precollege work;
- Post-baccalaureate students enrolled in:
- education or music therapy certification;
- post-baccalaureate program in science and allied health;
- verification in dietetics.
