MUT 648 Theoretical Foundations of MT (Credits: 2)

MUT 652 Research Colloquium (Credits: 1)

A seminar focused on developing research and clinical practice topics for MUT690 Culminating Project in Music Therapy. Students discuss topical areas of interest, refine their focus, draw upon and relate pertinent research literature, and develop a time line for completion. Where appropriate, students may complete an RERB application in this course.

MUT 670 Special Topics in MT (Credits: 1 to 6)

Individual reading, research, and presentation of a topic, or development of a special project on an independent basis, under the direction of music therapy faculty. Course is variable-credit and repeatable.

MUT 690 Culminating Project in MT (Credits: 3)

Individualized project featuring intensive exploration of a particular area within music therapy, demonstrating depth of understanding and competence at an advanced level. The project is completed under the guidance and supervision of a music therapy faculty, who serves as project advisor. The project must incorporate elements of music therapy theory, practice, and research and can consist of formal research, clinical case study, literature study, clinical/creative materials development, or marketing/advocacy work. Specific aspects of project content and form are based upon the student’s interests and learning needs. For examples of projects and further guidelines see the Department Handbook.

NED 511 Special Topics in Nutrition (Credits: 1 to 3)

Focused study of a nutrition topic of current interest. Topic varies by semester.

NED 512 Motivational Intervwng in Nutr (Credits: 2)

Students will learn and practice the main principles and techniques of motivational interviewing. These include, but are not limited to, assessing motivation, ambivalence and change talk, asking open ended questions, reflective listening, and informing.

NED 513 Culture & Diversity in HC Prac (Credits: 1)

Explore the current demographic trends in the U.S. and the need for culturally competent health care professionals. Investigate the research to understand how dietitians are being prepared to be effective contributors in a health care system. Reflect on cross-cultural skills, personal biases, and perspectives while recognizing the importance of culturally competent engagement as a health care professional in a diverse society.

NED 620 Sports Nutrition (Credits: 3)

Application of knowledge of nutrition and metabolism to the demands of physical activity and athletic performance. Covers the impact of physical activity on metabolic processes and nutrient needs, and applies this to specialized nutritional needs of active individuals throughout the life cycle. Discusses sport-specific nutrition recommendations for optimal athletic performance.

NED 640 Nutrition Assessment (Credits: 1)

This course examines the evidence-based methods of nutrition assessment. Emphasis is placed on the six domains of nutrition assessment, highlighting the measurement and interpretation of physical examination and laboratory parameters to identify and diagnose malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies. Coursework provides students with the opportunity for practical application of these concepts in the nutrition care of individuals in clinical, community, and research settings.
